Shanti (Grade 9 in 2016) with ANSWER director, Bal Krishna Khatry
Shanti is now an independent 21-year-old
Shanti

Shanti was born in the very remote village of Sotang. When the ANSWER-Nepal staff first began visiting Sotang, it required taking a small plane to a landing strip in the mountains and then trekking an additional 2 days to reach the village. A road was completed about 4 years ago, so now it is just a full day bumpy ride by jeep to reach the village from Kathmandu. Shanti’s parents still live in Sotang with her 3 younger siblings.

When Jay & Elizabeth Miller first began sponsoring 11-year-old Shanti, she said she wanted to travel beyond her village and become a pilot. She also said helping people was one of her hobbies. Shanti had the highest grades in her class, a big heart, and a lot of determination!

Shanti graduated in 2022 from a 3-year Health Assistant (HA) program with very high scores, placing her in the top category of “Distinction!” She also passed the licensing exam and worked for 6 months in the Khotehang Rural Municipality. While she was working, she was still studying, this time to prepare for a government job. These positions are coveted in Nepal as they provide a secure job with benefits!

Due to her own hard work and determination, Shanti acquired a very good government position as the “In Charge HA” at the Arlangkot Health Post in the western part of Nepal. So, Shanti has been fulfilling her dream of travel and her love of helping people. ANSWER and her sponsors are very proud of her success!
